I've been looking for a "full-size" basic bolt action .22lr with open sights...just to plink with. So, not interested in paying big $$.
What I'm finding out is the majority of the rifles come in 5rnd mags. The expensive Ruger 77/22 has a 10rnd mag and a few others. I stumbled across the Marlin 981T which holds 25rnds in the tube, has open sights, and seems to be "full-size". (I had a17rnd tube feed lever but its not my thing)
Does anyone have any experience with one of these and are they available in Canada? I was hoping for a wood stock rifle but I'm sure I can find a replacement for the synthetic one.

Thanks.

I have only one 981T now because I recently traded my other 981T.

It holds 17 rounds of .22 LR in the tube, has not had a FTFeed, FTFire, FTE in many hundreds of rounds of cheap Winchester Dynapoint and Xpert (solid or hollow point) bulk. Accuracy is almost as good as my Savage MKIIF/Accutrigger, and the 981T could benefit from a trigger job.

The new 981T has a similar system to Accutrigger. I suggest you wait for that model.

WSS carries the T and TS models per another 981T thread about a two/three weeks ago.

Marlin Rimfires are great! Good luck trying to cram 25 .22lr in the tube though!!! I believe they hold 17 in the tube (25 shorts). They are very available in canda. I don't have one although I know a few people who do and love them.

I got 3 Marlin 81s....2 with scopes and one currently for parts ? With the 17 LR capacity tube and 24 inch barrel, they perform fantastic out to 200 yards with the winchester 333/555s that I use.

Thanks for the info! I don't know where I got the info that they hold 25rnds:confused: I haven't owned many rimfires but none of them held less than 10 rnds and up to 50(drum). Now that I'm looking for a bolt I was sadden to see they mainly held 5rnds in the mag...until I came across this Marlin!
So far I haven't had much luck sourcing one(prob didn't look hard enough) but will check out WSS and dig deeper.

Ok...I found a 981T at WSS. It only costs $219.95! At this price it surely can't be any good. Appears it can hold 25 short, 19 long, 17 lr. I like the variety so I'll have to try to find one in the GTA to fondle and perhaps save the shipping.

Just a suggestion, have you tried Lebarons on Woodbine South of 7? They carry a pretty good selection of Marlins from what I saw when I was there last week.....

Yes...I was just there on the wknd. The ony two I looked at were the Savage MKii TR and the CZ 455 Lux. Didn't enquire about the Marlins or others because they're always so busy on the wknds. I'll have to take another look but I'm pretty sure it's going to be something tube feed and bolt action.
