Got my wife a Marlin 981TS for Valentines Day today. She's not a big shooter so I wasn't sure how it would go over but she actually loves it and can't wait to shoot it! Neither can I - this is my (I mean 'her') first bolt action tube mag rifle.

Anyone have any positive or negative feedback on the 981T or TS?

I got my youngest daughter interested in shooting by getting her a .22 of her very own. Somehow ownership makes them feel more involved. I then went out6 and got her a pink hogue stock and that was it...she became interested enough to come out to the range with us and " her" gun. Once she shot it she was hooked.

Prior to this she never wanted to tag along to the range with us...now she asks to come on most occasions.

Got one (981T) too. Well, I had two until one was traded away for a Mossy Rolling Thunder shottie.

With an unknown (Jason, made in Japan) brand 2-7x X 32 scope, it could shoot 1.5 - 2 inch 5-shot groups at 100 meters, benched and bagged, slight to moderate winds, using Winchester Dynapoint bulk ammo all day. Groups could be smaller on calm days. Stock trigger could use some tuning but haven't done it yet, so that could improve groups as well.

The Marlin micro-groove barrel works well because even on my Marlin 60s, I get similar groups. Except for the very rare extreme flyer (shooter induced:)), all my 100 meter groups are 2 inches or smaller.

Reliable mechanically as it hasn't failed to feed, fire, eject with Dynapoint or other Winchester bulk like X-Pert HP ammo in hundreds of rounds.

This is one rifle I'll keep for a long time.

I'm reassured now by all the feedback - thanks! I've got around 15,000 rounds of Winchester 555 so hopefully it likes it. It's going to be her and her stainless Marlin vs me and my stainless10/22 in a duel with the dueling tree.

I was surprised by how few dealers in Canada seem to carry the 981T and TS - Wholesale was the only place I could find and they had four of each in stock.
