What, if anything, ought to be altered on the Guide Gun in 45-70. My bankers draught($771.62) is on its' way to Alberta and I should have the rifle in a week or so.
I will get a Limbsaver reciol pad while I wait for my stainless steel thunder gun to arrive. I have never used the stock sights on the GG before, only one with a Leupold 4x scope.
Some people mount a scope immediately upon receipt of the gun but I am not sure if I should do this. Ghost rings seem to be popular. But perhaps the sights on the rifle are good enough.
A large loop is out as I do have medium sized hands. Besides shooting without gloves in the summer would not be comfortable I am thinking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Limbsaver model #10102
2. Stock sights suck, IMO. Replace with Williams/WWG/XS/Ashley ghost or peep. Scoping a guide gun is akin to humping your sister. Don't do it.
3. Find a small O-ring to deactivate the crossbolt safety, or order the crossbolt deactivation kit.
4. If you want, WWG has a "better" ejector and the happy trigger kit for the GG.

The WWG trigger makes a big difference. The trigger pull is lighter and cleaner. Can't say I've noticed any change with the ejector.

The aluminum follower is comforting. There have been reports of failures of the OEM ABS followers, resulting in KB's. I don't know if these reports are true or not but the aluminum followers are only $19 US.

The WWG ghost ring is a durable hight quality unit. It is fast to acquire your sight picture. I'm sure that the XS sights are good as well.

in order of importance

the wwg trigger -like night & day

either the WWG peep sight or the ashley rear ashley also makes a rail if you ever feel like optics later on

can't see much difference with bear-proof ejector or aluminum follower- but its cheap insurance reliability wise.

all of this stuff you can do yourself

williams firesight inserts are a cheap addition which are great for cloudy days

Any place I can buy these items in Canada? I do not use credit cards so everything would have to be by cheque or bank draught.

Just bought two boxes of Remington 45-70 (405gr SP) for $31 each.
I am sure they are mild, being off the shelf but I just thought I'd break the barrel in when I get the rifle.
