Marlin Lever Gun safety;remove or keep?

My Guide gun has an "e" clip to hold the safety off. An "o" ring would likely better choice, but I used what I had on hand.

I find that on a lever gun the cross bolt safety is just in the way. I usually carry it chamber empty. I can chamber a round as I'm bringing the rifle to my shoulder. If I'm planning to still hunt, I use the half #### notch.

I replaced mine with the filler kit for stateside......I've witnessed a guy miss an opportunity on a good buck because of that stupid safety.....

I failed to nail a black bear once for the same reason. "Click!..... (bugger!)... click!.... *&$^$^&%^$!!!!" However, I will admit I like to engage the safety when cycling rounds through the action to unload. I've retained mine but am training myself to make sure it's off except when unloading.

I've retained my cross bolt safety on my 1894C and I secured it with a 1/4" diam O-ring. Cheap fix and pretty tough to beat. Hard to push it into the SAFE position with the little O-ring.

I have a whinchester 94 big bore in 356. It has a cross bolt safety that I didn't like. I had a gunsmith cut it off flush with the side plate so that if I want it engaged to unload the rifle I push it in with the tip of a cartridge, but it no longer engages itself and I don't have to worry about hearing a click instead of a boom. Much better.
