Hello,

Recently bought a marlin 1895 guide gun. I am looking to have the action smoothened out a bit. Was hoping someone could recommend a good lever-gunsmith in the Calgary area? If not Calgary, then Alberta? I did find one in BC, but I'd rather avoid shipping if possible.

Not what I would call smooth. The winchester lever guns are much smoother. On mine, the lever does not lock up. When I shoot it, I have to hold the lever in place. I could send it back. But then there might just be something else wrong. Besides, why not just spend the money that I would in shipping, and get it slicked up once and for all? Or try to return it for a winchester I guess. But I like the shortness of the guide gun.
 
Yes sir, it is a remlin. Kicking myself, I should have bought the Henry. XS sights stock, smooth action. Dammit.

The remlins made in the past 2 years are pretty good.
If you can check them out carefully and work the action with dummy shells before laying your cash or card down.

The checkering and fit and finish leave a bit to be desired but my remlin 336 in 3030 is slick as snails snot.
I'm getting good groups off the sand bags with the 170 grain core lokt ammo.
Good hunting groups for me are 1.5" 3 shot groups at 100 meters.

I use a leupold 2-7x rifleman scope on my 336.
I think the objective lens dia is 33 mm.
Great scope for the money.

I have no problems with this gun which has taken 3 whitetail bucks in 3 years.
I smoothed the action myself with a stone and fine grit sand paper.
The marlins are easy to take apart and put back together.
Not rocket science.

I looked at the blue steel henrys in 3030 and 4570.
Models h009 and h010 I think.

Pretty expensive and I don't like that front end feed with no receiver loading gate.
Close to $1000 with hst.

Haven't read enough range reports to properly assess the henrys.
There's more to being a good gun than good checkering and easy cycling.
Any marlin I have ever bought whether jm or remlin was dead on accurate.
