marlin lever guns, what is the difference?

Longer, octagon barrel on the 1894 Cowboy. They come in different calibers as well. The Cowboy comes in 45 Colt, 357 Mag. / 38 Spl.*, or 44 Mag. / 44Spl.
The regular 1894 1894 only comes in 44 Rem. Magnum / 44 S&W Special.

I own a Cowboy in 45 Colt and love it!

the cowboy model in the photos has no checkering and costs more, why?
Strictly the Cowboy Models have the longer Octagon barrel, that's it ;)

I also believe ALL the Marlins now use the Ballard type rifling.

The cowboy model also has nicer wood as a rule and is fit and finished a little better. ;)
Not on the Three I've owned nor any others I've seen ? Just Plain old Marlin Wood minus the checkering ;)

They do also have the more "traditional" straight grip stock and lever to go along with the octagon barrel BTW:)
