I was cleaning some toys last night and was gobsmacked as I cleaned one of my Savage 99's and a new Marlin I recently acquired. Why have the prices on Marlins jumped so dramatically and Savage 99's prices have not changed much at all??? The 99's much better rifles from point of view of manufacturing difficulty and quality. Marlin's have this issue of "Marlin" jams. Never heard of or had issues with Winchester or Savage lever action jams. Not trying to "hate" on Marlins but I just don't get why $800 Marlins become $2,000 so quickly?

As much as the 99's might be great working rifles, they're just kinda fugly

I get a kick out of the $2000 marlin lever gun listings. The $2000 t81 is a close second. Big loop adds at least $500. Jm stamp is worth $500. Stainless $1500-$1800+. That would make a jm 1895 stainless big loop worth what? $3k??
In all honesty, it was a novelty gun for me. Much better options for hunting and much better options for plinking.
Cast lead mouse fart loads are a blast for sure, but not at today’s price of admission.

Just wait for Ruger to make them?
That’s a good one. You’ll either being paying 2500 if it’s nice
Or 1200 if it’s matte black and gritty.

I've seen plenty of model 94 winchester jams and malfunctions ,probably more than Marlins.Ill bet Ruger will have a hefty price tag on a new sbl 45/70.

Almost all Marlins have gone up,even the junk .I can't wait for ruger to start putting the Marlins out.

Same crap with Remington. Did you notice the increase in the use of the word "rare" on the Exchange, and the correlation to ridiculous prices, in relation to well-used 700 BDLs?

In other news a Rossi 92 spraypainted black is now retailing for 1400$.
Marlins chambered in anything not "thuddy-thuddy" have been steadily increasing in price the last five or so years with no end in sight and besides for some of the outrageous priced ones that don't sell many are willing to pay the 1000$ plus price of admission for a non JM-stamped 1894.

i e ve got anice 45/70 on ee coming from the custom shop and i was suprised at the quality of the job well done. but i will not pay the price of custom work for a regular 1895 that is a given ...

I also agree in some ways. Not necessarily about aesthetics but even from handiness and ergonomics, I personally find a Savage 99 to be worst elements of a lever and a bolt gun.

my savage 1923 in 300 savage saved my bacon in my many years of guiding and was providing food on the table during those days. avoided an issue with 2 black bears and a cook shot a wolf that getting into our food reserve ... so i do not know what to say but this is the last one to leave our home if others firearms has to leave.
