Hey guys
I'm going to buy a Marlin 795 as my first rimfire, from SIR ($150). I want to have a few magazines though - do all Marlin .22 magazines work in this gun? SIR lists several different mags and I wanted to order them at the same time as the gun to save on shipping.

Thanks :D

First off, you will really enjoy the 795. I have this rifle and for the money, it is one of the best out there, IMO. Light, reliable, and cost effective, what more could you ask for.

As for extra mags, my understanding it the 10 shot nickel plated magazines fit all auto-loading .22's and a bunch of bolt action .22's as well.

Have fun!

Cool, thanks! :) I figured they were pretty standard but I didn't want to assume.

This will be my first .22. If I like it I'm thinking about a bolt-action Savage in .17HMR for long(er) range fun.

Shortly after I got the 795, I picked up a Marlin 917V (a .17 HMR) at it is a ton of fun. Nice to switch between the two in the gopher patch....keeps things very interesting.

Hi TheIndifferent1,

Don't know if you've ordered one yet or not. I placed an order with SIR for a 795 back in early-mid January, they said then it would be here by late January. After my latest phone call to them it looks more like April now....if I'm lucky. A good price, but you may have a wait too.

does the 7000 have any real advantages over the 795 in terms of accuracy-or are they comparable?[the intended use would be for plinking and potting grouse and squirrels]

The 795 is a low cost rifle. The 7000 is a heavy barreled target type rifle. Personally, I don't much like either one. If your wanting a field rifle in the Marlin flavour, look into a model 60 with that sweet little tube mag. Your not going to lose that. Or if your bound and determined on a detachable magazine, and it hurts me to say this, buy a Ruger.

Thanks for the part number pharaoh2 :) I looked at a model 60 but I don't like tube magazines for rimfire. Ruger is out of my price range right now, but depending on how long the 795 are backordered for I may be able to save up more for a Ruger :) SIR is still out of stock.
