I just bought a Marlin 30as in 30-30, haven’t got it in my hands yet tho. I have a couple questions for you guys that have one of these or are familiar with them. What is the difference between these and a 336, besides stock material? And will it take the same scope bases as a 336?
I plan to put a scope on this rifle and use it for deer here in Ontario.

It doesn't have the barrel band and lots of guys online say because of this they are more accurate than the 336.

The one I want is the 30KT or is it TK? The Kmart Texan.

I have the Glenfield 30A, similar to yours. No barrel band. All internals are identical. Fit and finish are the only thing different. Beech stock with pressed-in checkering and semi-matt blued finish, not a polished finish as on the 336. Mine has no cross-bolt safety, only the half-#### with the hammer. Guns this old are considered slightly better than newer guns with the cross-bolt safety depending on who you talk to. As long as its a genuine JM stamped gun, you're golden.

Great guns, I also have a jm stamped Marlin 30as, the "s" just means it has the additional silly safety compared to the original Glenfield 30a.

Mine has no checkering, but I don't mind the fairly plain stock. The bluing, as mentioned above was not a high gloss and I didn't find it held up very well - but its off to be cerakoted so non-issue there

Lovely gun for the 225$ I paid for it in high school LNIB...how times have changed!

Thanks for the info gentlemen, looking forward to putting a scope on this rifle and seeing how it does. Maximum shot out of my tree stand is 75 yards, so it should be just fine.
