Marlin Model 31 Questions

This 20 ga. pump shotgun has an action release in the position where a tang safety would normally be found. It appears that the action lock is connected to the firing pin. What does the action lock engage, to hold the bolt in the locked position until it is released? A little lug on the inside of the sideplate?

Good question. I'm new to Marlin shotguns, myself. I have a model 28 that has the same action release in the same position.

X2 on the question. If anybody knows the answer, you can clue us both in at the same time.

Funny I thought the Model 31 was made by Remington. Best pump gun ever made.

Remington made a Model 31. This one is a Marlin.
