Has anyone here ever created a substitute sight platform for the Lyman 40 SM for a Marlin 55 Goose Gun?

I really enjoy restoring older, classic guns, and then using them. Last fall an older friend here just gave me his Marlin 55 12 Ga. Goose Gun. It needed some work, but is in overall great shape, and hardly used. I tapped and threaded the old girl for choke tubes.

I stripped and refinished the stock with linseed oil (the only finish I use any more and an ongoing part of this project 'til I put it in the boat next fall), and gave the barrel a coat of Amercoat, a two-stage pigmented epoxy (it's used on off shore oil rigs, is bomb-proof, and adheres even to rust! (...but is not cheap and is extremely toxic when wet!!!)). Yesterday I finally got around to stripping, cleaning, and polishing the bolt...it came out great. Then I got on to my final part of the project, sights.

Lyman did make a rear peep sight for these...the Lyman 40SM. But they are scarce and consequently can be pricy; the receiver on the Marlin 55 is drilled and tapped for this sight. Taking the measurements, it looks like a William 700 WGRS peep sight will work if given a shelf extension that is about .25" thick on its top.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone else ever configured such an attachment before I bring my drawing into town next week to get milled...hopefully out of brass stock (which would offset the gold trigger on the Marlin)?

I saw another Marlin 55 at a local gun show a couple months ago and realized that I would eventually like to buy and restore another one to get a matching pair. (I just bought a Savage Springfield 18D here on CGN to use as a 2 3/4" look-alike side-kick for birds that fly through under my nose and cripples...and yes, will look for another one in the future as well if it works out.) Largest freshwater delta in the world is nearby...ducks galore...I love the 55 Goose Guns...

...here's the basic milling that I think will work...certain curvatures needed and holes drilled and tapped appropriately...that would make one heck of a long sight plane and a really nice sight...no top view is shown but would need to mirror the opposite of the side view in order to allow the bolt to fully open.
