Does anyone know anything about the Marlin Model 60?? I have the opportunity to buy one right now, for what I think is a steal. I am used to a Ruger 10/22, so aside from the Marlin being a Tube feed, is there any other drawbacks?

Also, what would you guys say a Like New Model 60 Checkered Wood/Blued Barrel be worth?? Not a scratch on it and about 100 rounds through it.

Due to the overwhelming responses, and positive feedback, I have decided to buy this gun. I hope its good. It only cost me $100, and it is in like new condition.

I figure that is a good price also on a 100% perfect less than 100 rounds through it. Brand new ones go for around $250, from what I have read.

Are you saying the 60 having a tube-mag is a drawback? Bro, the tube mag and legendary accuracy (for semi-auto, that is) are the two main reasons I love them. Add reliability, durability and easy parts supply if ever you need them...and yes of course, price.

No snob appeal but who cares. Few accurizing and tacticool accessories for it...again who cares. The reason there are few aftermarket parts is that there is little demand for aftermarket parts. This classic beauty doesn't require those parts to perform the job it was designed to do...shoot well.

People who buy the 60 will either love them to death or hate them. 11 million made since the 60s. Harder to find in the used market than 10/22, just check the EE. 60s are sold within the day or two.

The fact you stole it for 100 bucks is just a bonus. But I hope he was not your friend:D

I have a marlin 70 and a marlin papoose, same action as the model 60 only magazine fed instead. I absolutely love these semi's, accurate, reliable, well built, and easy to problem solve. I may even pick up a tube fed 60 someday. Congrats on your purchase.

I just bought a new one last week, $180 dollars taxes in based off of al the good feedback I have read about the gun. This is going to be the weekend I put several hundred rounds through it, will come back and say how it went.

I am used to the easy to load and unload Ruger 10/22, but the looks of this new gun I bought is beautiful. It more than makes up for any downfalls, that I may think they are.

I did'nt buy it from a friend either. Found it on another website. Its pretty hard to get $100 Marlins on this website...LOL.. Here it is, won't have it until next week though, darn CanadaPost has Friday, and Monday off for Easter.

Best $100 bucks you ever spent on a firearms. Right out of the box, your $100 (new for $179 at the Bass pro) semi will carve circles around $1000 pimped up bull barrel 10/22's and CZ or Anschutz, in accuracy (and reliability and fun). One of those timeless designs.

There is something to be said about a $179 semi auto that shoots tighter MOA's at 100 yards than the next guy's bolt action CZ or Anschutz . You should see their faces, priceless. :p

Feed it 36 grain Mini Mags if you are rich and care about quarter size groups at 100 yard, or 38 American Eagle if you want to spend less or Fed. champion value pack if you are cheap like me.

Bushnell's 3X9X32 rimfire glass ($49.00 at Le Barron) seems to be designed with Marlin 60 in mind. Have fun.

OK...I exaggerated a bit. It doesn't shave circles around bolt action Czs and Anschutz, but in the hands of a semi-competent shooter, it comes pretty Daren close.

Now, two things you should know about this little guns. First, depending on how dirty your ammo is, between 400 and 600 shots, it will let you know that it is time for cleaning. Second, the built quality of the new 14 shot rifles is not as sturdy as the old 18 shot ones (Marlin is now owned by Remington). The front disassembly screw is too short. Eventually, one day when you are trying to tighten that screw.....nothing that a longer screw from CT can't fix. (I just noticed the picture. Yours is an old 18 shot design. Lucky you).

Does anyone know what its like to mount a scope to it? Does it have groves at the top? is there a weaver type base that I have to mount to it?

It has 3/8'' scope grooves but because the receiver is aluminum, the dovetail is prone to chipping or damage say if you drop the rifle on the scope. Or the aluminum can just fatigue and fracture from years of being compressed by narrow rings with a big heavy scope atop.

This is more sturdy:

Thanks for the info Easyrider. I have one more question about this gun. When I called up the CFC the lady there told me that it is a Glenfield. Does that mean the its a Marlin Model 60 Glenfield? Or is Glenfield just another name for Marlin ?

Hold on to that thought! I think I may finally take the plunge and buy a digital camera and teach myself how to upload pictures on the Net.

As one of the contemporary philosophers once said; "I WILL BE BACK".

Pretty close to a CZ or Annie, eh ? Love to see your targets.

My 60 would shoot against any rifle out there, including my CZ, neither of which I own anymore. My 60 was so accurate that I made it look so stupid, I decided to take advantage of it's accuracy and mounted a 6-18 power Banner on it. It would litteraly shoot the tacks holding (other peoples :D) targets up.

Bluefash, told you would be happy with it. LOL Yep, I'm on this site too. LOL Enjoy. Let me know when you get it.

I have one, it was the first rifle I bought. I've had lots of other .22s, but none of them were better than my Marlin. The action is a PITA to clean/disassemble compared to a 10/22, but I found it to be more accurate and reliable.
