just bought my first model 60, shipped today so I haven't got it yet. its a glenfeld whatever that means. how do you like them? Are the old ones better made than the new ones?

Don’t know about old vs new but I have a new one for about a year. Put an M*Carbo trigger and spring kit in it and a Tech Sights peep. It is my favourite rifle, just love it. Shoots great and is a fantastic pinker.

Glenfield means birch stock instead of walnut.
Model 60s are excellent rifles. I've seen the occasional broken buffer and firing pin.

Tube-fed version of the Marlin 795 I own..which is box-mag-fed. Great rifles for the money, and the only semi/rimfire I own now. The sights on the newer Marlins (including mine, which is maybe 5-6 years old) tend to be crooked..but I'm almost 50=scope anyway. :) The triggers on Marlin semis seem to benefit from some trigger work, the MCARBO kit is the most affordable, DIY option I'm aware of.

I have the 60 SS. I love it. Great rifle and very accurate. A few months back I got a fox that was after our chickens with the 60 SS. The fox is currently in my freezer.

I have a wood stock blued version with Tech peep sights. Sounds silly but kinda looks like a mini M1 Garand or a least reminds me of M1 Garand. I prefer the tube mag for plinking, it's easier to load and like on Sunday I fired off a bulk box of Federal 525 rds in about 2 hours and no sore fingers afterwards.

Marlin 60 is the best selling .22 rifle in the world. It out sells Ruger and predates their 10/22 (1964). Advantages of the older models such as the Glenfield over the new 60 is that it holds more rounds 15-18 depending on model vs 11 and the reciever is made of steel and not alloy. Have both and I feel like I have to baby the new 60 in the bush because I don't want to ding up the receiver.
