Marlin Model 60

thank you so much for the help.. now here is the next question
for fun/target shooting which would be best?
Marlin Model 60
Savage Mark II
Ruger 10/22
or any other suggestions would be welcomed

For the 10/22 you can at least get bigger clips then the Model 60.I have both and they are great guns but the Marlin clip can be a bit tedious when shooting a few hundred gophers.

For fun,... 10/22
For target,.. MarkII
For fun/target,... Model 60

My model 60 shoots almost as tight as my mark II... not quite, buy nearly. I've never seen a 10/22 that shoots as accurately as either of the others. But you can get high capacity mags for the ruger...

Rugers are great for spray and pray, and for modifying. Target shooting... Not so much unless you want to swap barrels and trick it out with VQ this and that.

Marlin 60 is my semi-auto of choice; it's a laser out to 25 yards and devilishly accurate out to 50. Holds 14 rounds in the tube so it isn't like it has small ammo capacity.

Also quite cheap and no need to mod it beyond adding a scope.

Don't bother with a 10/22 unless you have several hundred dollars extra to spend on top of the rifle for the extra mods needed to get it shooting half as straight as the Savage or Marlin.

Ditto here. Went through the same exercise. Got a 10/22 and couldn't get it to group decently at 25 mtrs. (that was using CCI Mini Mags). Had it for a decade then finally sold it and got myself a Marlin 60. Easily shoots 50 mtr. groups consistently (using irons) and its bare stock (thats using both Federal and Winchester bulk ammo from Wally's). As few misfires (due to the cheapo ammo) w/ some FTF,FTE during the first 500 rnds or so but now its silky smooth. For about $160+ tax, this is a sleeper deal for a well made (USA), affordable, durable and "brand new" plinker.
Loading can be a small chore but getting a tube speed loader is the key. Each loader holds 120 rnds. Have got 2 so range visits are spent more productively on shooting rather than loading.
