I have really warmed up to this gun. Good price, looks good, tublar magazine that can hold 25 shorts, 19 long or 17 long rifle rounds. Its also "full sized" which I really like. This will be my "bush" gun so have no mag to lose is a good thing, sling swivels and irons to back up the scope I plan to put on it are all nice features. Anyone have any experince with these?

I really do not think you would be disappointed in any way. I have 3 - 1940s model 81 Marlins( predecessor of the 981) and shoot one of them every day when weather permits. Most shots are at 100 plus yards when irradicating gophers. 3x9x scope and 9-13 bipod the only additions. Still cycle and fire like new, even after the thousands I have fed them each and Lord knows how many before they came into my hands..

One of the first firearms I bought was a Marlin 981t, this was only a few months ago mind you, but so far it has proven to be the most accurate out of the box. I've had absolutely no issues with it so far, take down is easy, it feels great in the hands and the weapon is surprisingly light. It's already drilled and tapped for bases, plus a dove tail mount so if optics are your bag then it's already set up for that. I'm an irons guy myself, and so far I've been able to drive tacks using the irons.

I did a ton of research on bolt action rimfires before I settled on the 981t, and for all the benefits I'd heard about the Savage MKIIs and CZs, the 981t ended up the one I picked up.
 
I'm interested in the 981T as well. Any of these scope mounts look suitable?:

I'm refering to the one piece long body style mounts.
 
The gun is well worth buying good mounts for it. Weaver should be considered. A gunsmith can shape the mounts to the contours of the barrel thus insuring mounts that do not move. My 3 - 81s were done this way and well worth the extra $.
 
I was looking at the BKL-261 mount.
Toymaker - would you happen to know which part # your rings were? Low or Med height?
 
depends in the size of your scope...40 or 50 mm...one set is high with a 50mm ...and the other a 40mm with medium rings. I do not know the numbers as he provided and installed. I just shoot 'em...lol...lol

I took a gander at the BKL-261 mount and it looks like a medium height. Should work ok with a 40 mm.
 
I have two of these... 981T and the 22mag version 983T.

I like them alot. handy, light, tube fed, and accurate.
