Hello all, so Me and Mom have decided that we want to go winter camping and do some small game hunting wile we're at it some time next year. This gives me the excuse to buy a new rifle.;)

I'm liking the look of the Marlin model 983 in .22 WMR, but does it shoot as good as it looks?
And who carrys them? I checked Lebarons site but thay dont seen to have it listed.

Edit: Ok, so after reading some good reviews there's just one more thing I'd like to know.(for now:rolleyes: )
Which would you guys say is the better model, the Stainless steel vs. blued metal model? And why?

Anywoo, thanks guys.

I bought one from wss last summer as an pre introduction to centerfires for my son to bring along when we go out. I was quite surprised how big it shoots compared to a 22 long rifle. Way more noise maybe to much power for light game. He brings it along when we call coyotes which I would think is a little on the light side for this. Basically his hunting gun but a little expensive to target shoot with. Put a 1.5 to 4.5 power scope on it which fits the gun perfectly for hunting in the bush and quicker shooting. Off a bench at 50 yards you can clover leaf with cci ammo, shoots excellent, heavy trigger out of the box not sure if it is adjustable. Would I buy it again, NO, Would buy a used CIL Anschutz 310 for target shooting and hunting and a 243 for all other larger hunting when needed. Beautiful rifle but question the benefit of the 22 mag as compared to a 22 long rifle.

Ive got a 982VS which is heavy barrel, stainless ...Very nice ... trigger pull is little heavy out of the box but crisp enough for sh*ts and giggles and tight TIGHT groups... I would recommend without hesitation if you like .22-Mag. ... BUT ... dont run cheap Win. Super X ammo without expecting a few misfires here and there ... Seems the firing pin doesnt like their rims every once in a while .. I use CCI and its flawless to date...

Anyone else?

I also have one more question.

I choose the 983 in the blued for a more traditional look in walnut. I think they are pretty much the same if you like laminate or synthetic. I did notice the front sight bead is orange plastic (fiberoptic glows real good) on the stainless 983 but brass on the blued model.
