Marlin Model XT-22M Bolt Action VS Savage 93G Bolt Action w/ AccuTrigger

Can't help you with the savage but I own a bolt action xt22 in 22lr, it's the model with the heavy barrel. It's a great little rifle, shoots very accurately. It likes most ammo but really shoots well with cci hp mini mags and federal American eagle hp, federal auto match and wildcats. I had some fte with one line of Winchester now and then but it shot decent groups with it, all said it shoots plenty well with bulk ammo. At some point I'll have to see what it does with some higher end match grade ammo.

This was my best try at the 1/2" groups at 50yrds with bulk ammo.

I have the Xt 22m in .22wmr and it is a nice accurate little rifle. Nice ,easily adjustable trigger. Dual mounting choice for optics. Only tried the 30 gr Cci and shoots them well. Only had it out twice to the range since buying 4 yrs ago so can't speak to durability lol.

what scope are you currently running?

Done, thanks.

I decided to stick with Savage and I am deciding between the Savage 93G Bolt Action and Savage 93R17 GLV Bolt-Action. Basically, the .17HMR vs the .22 mag both in a Savage brand in WOOD.

I have the 93-17 HB in wood, shoots really well and it's made in Canada which is nice.
The argument between 22mag and 17hmr is 2 fold...the 17 is more accurate, but affected more by wind. The 22mag hits harder and can be used on slightly bigger game, but definitely not as accurate as the 17hmr, and not even as accurate as good 22lr ammo.

Nice looking rifle Hitzy, for what it's worth I was looking at both savage and Marlin models when I was shopping. Both were in the same price range, both had basically the same features as well as good reviews everywhere I looked.. The decider was the Marlin was in stock at Reliable and it felt nice in my hands as well as shouldered.

@TakDriver cheers, I have fun shooting this rifle no mater if it's from a bench or in the woods. Once the winter is over I'd like to give the 1/2" @ 50yrds another go, I'm confident with better ammo it is capable of doing it. If I do my part that is lol.

Nice setup. That's the exact model im looking to buy right now. Waiting on a call back from Cabelas to match a sale that i missed - its worth a shot, right? lol

What type of groups are you getting? Ammo?

EDIT: FWIW, when i was researching velocity and energy @ 100yds i discovered very little difference between the 22mag and the 17HMR. BUT, the 17 WSM is another animal altogether. I wish Savage would come out with a wood/blue that operated properly. Maybe next year. If so, i'll be on the top of that list of buyers.

I had the 93 savage with sinthetic stock, but ended up getting rid of it and now have the marlin with a nice wood stock. The savage took a bit of fiddling with the mag to make it feed. The marlin came with 2 mags and they both feed good. As for shooting, I think they are very close.

The CCI 20gr Gamepoint are very accurate, easy sub-moa at 100m if the wind isn't blowing. The difference in 17hmr and 22mag on game is penetration. Some guys use them on yotes but I wouldn't go that big with the 17.... just smaller game.

Marlin xt my first gun of any kind many came and went however this out of the box tack driver is still one of my favourite
was way more accurate than me and now that i am better it is a well priced wonder ,shoots well out of its price point
can hold its own
you would not be sorry i am sure

50 yards ,,,, i know i messed up one but it happens

now nothing against savage i have a axis in 223 and it is another value accurate story
but this is a great choice
