Is there a recommendation in the $200-$400 range or pot luck getting a good shooter or a dud regardless of make? Which has the better warranty /service?
Thinking of the Marlin XT-22 at the moment.

Ive had several savage fv in 22lr and theyve all been very accurate. Ive moved all my marlins except my 22mag but its an old chuckster. I still have my savages

I own a tube feed Marling 981T and a Savage MKII TR. Both bolts are accurate enough with bulk HV ammo. The TR gets the edge in accuracy with SV ammo (CCI)
If I had to choose one it would be the Savage based on looks, feel, materials and overall build quality....but then again it does costs a bit more than the Marlin.

I just picked up a Marlin XT 22 tube magazine.

I prefer the build quality of Marlin bolt rifles over the Savage Mk 2s. The Savage Mk is a tad more accurate. But it could’ve been the different scopes, or me having a good or bad day. I have a couple of Marlin tube bolties and 2 Mk 2s.

Not sure how the new Savage A22 compares though.

I have a Savage MK II FV, I hated the plastic Tupperware stock it came with and replaced it with a Boyds. My son's Savage B22 FVSR has a much better stock out of the box compared to the MK II

My only complaint with the B22 is I find the B22 rotary magazine slower to reload than the MK II magazine.

Both rifles needed a little internal deburring and a couple hundred rounds to loosen/smooth up actions.

Love my marlin xt22 with the heavy barrel, with bulk federal AE or cci mini mags I shoot 1/2”-3/4” 5 shot groups at 50y. Have put some eley through it and it’s a real accurate shooting rifle.
