I see marlins sold with rings, bases, and a Simmons scope for an extra $40 . Is the set up at total ( scope and rings ) POS that I will be tossing in a month or do these scopes and rings do the job.

Sure I'd like to put a Leupold on it but finances aren't there and the rifle will only be shot 40 times or less per year.

I know this may be a dumb question but I value the oppinion of those with real experience and not writers of reviews who get paid to push products by the companies.

I have a Simmons scope that came as part of the "Package deal" on my Ruger 10/22. The scope is clear and has nice crosshairs, never had any problems with it. Never used one on anything else, so I don't know how their scopes for larger rifles are. Not a lot of kick on a .22

The Simmons I have are on .22 Marlins and a Gustav 6.5x55 rifle. Has been on the rifle for years and not a problem. Shot quite often at the range so not the typical once a year deer bang flop.

A lot of the package deals are deals to sell off overstock. the scopes are usually worth more than the "$40" it is thought it is priced. Even selling a $100+ scope on a special deal is still a profit to them.

I think the Aetec series isn't too bad, but some of the other Simmons scopes could be improved upon. They should be able to handle the recoil of a typical hunting rifle without problem without losing zero. I would check one out in person before buying though, brightly lit stores may not be ideal for scope testing but it's better than buying sight unseen (pun intended).
