Seriously considering a Marlin Papoose to stick into the bug out bag which lives in my car (cable-locked TO the frame of my car, I should say..!).

From the reading I have been doing from those who consider their opinions important enough to write stuff all over the www, it sounds like the Papoose is a good compromise between size / portability, and actual function, and if SIR is listing them at $240, I'm sure I can find one cheaper elsewhere.

From those who may have actually owned / shot one, can you think of negatives?

Where does one find extra magazines?

Thanks for your time - Happy Festivus!

I like my Papoose for its size once broken down. I always thought it would be a nice choice for backpacking, camping, etc as well as in a BOB/Carkit.

I have no complaints about mine, bought it used here on CGN, I sorta wish I bought a new one with the synthetic stock and stainless finish.

Its accurate enough from what I recall, but I did put a compact scope on mine as I am lousy with irons.

Extra mags are cheap, I think under $15 and its a common magazine from marlin, fits many of their .22s. I picked up several at P&D when they were hanging on the wall, I suspect Wholesale, Russels, SIR, etc should all have stock.

Looking at the Papoose I thot it would be a good idea to epoxy a short, slim wood forend to the barrel to improve the hold. What do you guys think of this idea?

Not necessary, it holds fine around the end of the stock or around the mag,

It's a light rifle.

The best looking Papoose I have ever seen had a sling stud, mated with a bipod. It neatly folded under the barrel. With a silver 2-7 variable scope, and the stainless and black, synthetic, it looked stunning. The person that owned it said it shot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards.A nice inexpensive shooting package.I better watch it or I'll talk myself into one as well.I just took delivery of a Marlin model 70, which is the non-takedown version of the Paoose. It came with an extra wood Papoose stock, so if you buy the synthetic version, and wish to have wood, as well, you know were to find one.

I like mine a lot. It shoots one inch 20yd groups with good ammo and is pretty reliable as long as you keep the barrel nut tight and clean the dust out periodically. A bugout kit is a great idea I think I'm gonna put one together myself with the Papoose, axe, knife, flashlight, dried food, sleeping bag etc.
