Anybody bought a Marlin 336ss lately? I know the beginning of the Remington reign really screwed those rifle up, but now I'm hearing they are not bad.......

Could any real owners out there with a recent 336ss purchase let me know. Hows the action? Fit and finish? Any pry marks or crooked screws?? Barrels straight? No exploding stocks?

I have just talked with salespeople only on this issue. I am very wary of Remilns, but would liked to be convinced otherwise.

Thinking of getting one for this hunting season. Man, they are sweet looking!!!!!

Thanks

The new 336 xlr was on sale a while ago....
Fit and finish are ok. I looked through a few at the store that had tool marks, or inconsistent polishing along the top of bbl.
lever is stiff to cycle. I had a jm 336 ss that was good for 1 or two shots before it heated up and patterned instead of grouping. And it would take 30-75 minutes to cool down.
Rifle works well.

Mine is marked Ilion NY, has an "MR" serial number and was probably a 2013-2014 production. Sights are on straight, fitment of wood to metal is good, metal and wood are well finished. There was a burr on the inside of the ejection port and a burr on the receiver inside where the barrel/chamber protrudes. Neither affected performance, however, and they cleaned off very easily. The edges on the lever were maybe a little too sharp so I smoothed them out a bit as well. The action is solid and cycles nicely. Spent brass ejects as it should. It shoots well and is accurate, though, I have only put 20 or so rounds through it thus far. I also have a 1978 production 336 in 35Rem. The 336SS quality is comparable to the older 336 but would lose some points in wood to metal fitment and smoothness of edges.

I got a remlin 336. Not stainless.
Fit and finish is ok. Only thing that bugs me it the front sight is not perfectly allinged with the rear. Still shoots great with irons.
