Recently bought a new 1895sbl went out to shoot it the other day and when you go to rack a shell into the chamber it gets stuck (canted) it’s not a smooth rack I was just wondering if any of you had this problem??

Mines a little rough working the action, I striped it and lubed it and that helped a lot but I’m sure she will smooth out the more I shoot and work it no problem loading.

I bought a new Marlin lever action in .357/.38 Spl. a few years back. When I would try to rack a fresh round into the chamber, it would hang-up and the tip of the bullet would hit the back of the breech - I would have to stick my finger into the ejection port and give the cartridge a push, to line it up with the chamber and then finish with closing the lever - at which point, the lug on top of the lever (just to the rear of the trigger) would then hang up on the bottom of the receiver. I would have to wiggle the lever (on it's horizontal axis) to get the lug on the lever, to go into the opening in the receiver - which was made possible by the very loose fit of the lever. Crap design and/or execution - I took it back and exchanged it for a Puma. Much better.

I've owned a number of Marlins that had the same problem. All JM stamped ones by the way. It's always been a really easy fix. The cartridge catches the edge of the extractor ( not the ejector ) on the way up. Have a look to see where it's rubbing and a few minutes with a file ( after removing the bolt :) and it's fixed for good. This of course assumes that your problem is the same as all of mine. The only one I could never get to feed right was an 1895 stainless guide gun. It's internals were just too sloppy to ever get working well.

Chris.

thanks for all the comments. i believe my situation is a bit different. no problems at all for about 200 rounds round then the problem appeared.
