Thinking of getting a SBL as a bush gun, but part of me thinks what are the advantages of the SBL? SBL is 6 + 1 rounds, Mossy is 5+1 rounds. I have Brenneke Black Magic 3 inch magnum slugs for the mossy. Plus challenger and rotweil to name a few other slugs. Compared to most factory ammo in 45/70, is there any clear advantage under 50-70 yards? I don't reload and Buffalo Bore stuff is hard to get. What would you choose?

Just looking for opinions.

Both will work. Both put big holes in big game. The rifle will allow for further accurate fire but 70 yards or less it won't matter so choose based on handling capabilities and want. As much as I love my slug gun ill take a rifle any day for big game

Under 50v slug over 50 45-70 my experience drop a big black bear whit cheap winchester 2 3/4 foster slug and never see that type of domage from 45-70

I think people with the most experience with this sorta thing would take a rifle over a shotgun with slugs any day. Iv never shot a charging bear but id take my 444 over my rem 870 into the bush. I hand load for both so ammo selection does not come into play for my decision. I'v also spoke with many a rancher that still work there land on horse back and they said they would take a 30-30 out with them over a shot gun.

I think it will come down to what you can handle the best.

I've shot a 275 lb black bear that charged me. One shot with a 405 gr Remington flat nose at 1600 fps from my 45/70 stopped him dead at 12' from me. Knicked the skull entered the neck and exited thru the back of the off shoulder. 2" hole all the way thru. Very little meat damage. No jello just torn shredded meat and broken bones. It came so fast I didn't get the gun to my shoulder and it actually bruised the top of my bicep
The charge started from about 30 yards off in the thick regrowth. I almost took a crossbow that afternoon. Sure glad I didn't

Not a grizzly but close enough to get you thinking about not bow hunting anymore
