Can anyone tell me why the rear site on the Marlin 45-70 guide gun is half the height of the rear site on the 22" barreled 45-70 classic?

I have fixed the problem thanks to Western gun parts, but was just curious as to why Marlin did this. I tried contacting them a few times to find out but always seem to call at the wrong time, and then gave up when I talked with WGP.

Any ideas?

The front sights are identical. On Both guns I now have the tall rear sight and it works perfect and both are almost set the same. But with the low rear sight on the GG I had the rear sight maxxed out and still the point of impact at any decent distance was way to low.

It is a stupid Marlin mistake, actually. I do not know if it has been corrected in recent runs, but the intial bunch of GG's came with the rear sight from the 1894 model. It isn't realted to bbl length, it is just a mistake. If you can actually get ahold of Marlin, they will send the proper replacement sight. The 450 Marlin GG's had the proper height sights. As far as I know it was just the 45-70 GG's.

That is kinda what I had figured. I guess I just wasted $40 for the new sight. Oh well no biggy, at least it was fixed in two days instead of waiting for Marlin.

I had kinda figured that it was a Marlin mistake when I called WGP and the lady on the other end told me there was only one sight listed for both guns.

Thanks
