marlin triggers

I have a new marlin 795,the trigger is so-so,bit on the heavy side.Then I was shooting an old guys marlin 22 mag bolt action-and the trigger was really nice,light and crisp,way better then my new one-it was an older model.Were the triggers on older marlins lighter than the new ones?

The regular wear and tear and natural polishing makes the triggers much nicer as time and shots pass. My old 1940s Marlins have triggers that melt when you pull them

I won't touch a trigger[I know enough to leave well enough alone] but is there any way of polishing them with polishing compound to speed up the process?
