Hey folks,
I'm a new shooter and small game hunter and I'm pretty excited about the sports. For reasons I don't understand, I'm somewhat fixated on the survival gun niche right now (don't make fun of me too harshly). I have a Springfield M6 Scout, I'm planning to get the Henry AR7, and I'm keeping an eye out for the Savage 24C Camper's Companion, and next time I see a serious sale on a little badger I'm gonna grab one, but where I'm struggling these days is on the Papoose.
From what I've read online both here and on other sites it's a well loved takedown rifle. It seems there's a strong love for the pre-2008 models made by Marlin as opposed to the newer ones made by Remington. Most notably, The Great Survival Rifle Experiment of 2016-17 by Wayupnorth suggested the new Marlin 70PS aren't as accurate as he was expecting given their reputation.
This thread also suggested that the new Papooses aren't as good as the old Papooses.
Easy right? Try and find one... I've been scouring the internet for a few months now and I've only seen 2 used ones for sale and the pricing and condition has been varied to say the least. I understand that those with patience are rewarded, and there's hardly any rush for this purchase, but then I got to thinking:
I can buy a brand new one, right now for $350-400.
Which begs the question: Why Not?
The reviews Here and Here are pretty good.
So, go ahead and share your opinion if you have one: Should I just buy the new one and have it over with, or wait for a used one to pop up on the market?
