I'm thinking I'd like to try WMR, I'd like somthing easy to carry on the farm, open sights and mag fed, wood stock looks nice too, price is a point too, so don't tell me to buy a CZ I'd love too, but with 4 kids and a stay at home wife... Besides I'd rather stock up on ammo first then trade up at tax time.

Looking at the Marlin XT and Savage 93. I've shot a 9317 quite a bit and like it, I also have mark II BV so it may be more familiar. The marlin is cheaper, about $50. That's about 250 rounds. Plus I already said I wouldn't buy anymore guns this year(3 so far). May get away with $200ish and I "sell one" to a buddy.

What other options, I don't want to save up, I'm saving up for a heavy barrel .223 in the new year.

Thanks

PS if any one has an extra in the Fraser Valley let me know

In my opinion using both a marlin xt and a savage mkII and 93. I would get the marlin. Its 10x the gun of a savage. The last savage I looked at I think a 5 year old could finish it better.

^must have been my FV-SR you were looking at. :)

I had a Savage 93FV and after running 9 varieties of ammo through it, only 1 type (Hornady 30gr. V-Max) could print anywhere near an inch @ 100 yards. 2/5 groups were inside the 1" ring, the other 3/5 were printing around 1-1/4" to 1-1/2". Most reports I hear on 22WMR are about the same, but, to your question~I'd probably try the Marlin. I think the XTs come with more than one mag too if memory serves.

I recently purchased a savage 93fss because it's going to spend alot of time ouside in the damp so I wanted synthetic stainless. Only had it out once but I like it. Hasn't proved to be a tackdriver yet but only tried winchester and cci 40grainers. It printed around 2 inches with both at 100 yds. No bench rifle but will be fine for what I need it for.
