This will be a starting gun for my 10 yr old son. I notice that there is a youth version with shorter stock but will he out grow it in future and found the the stock not fitting? What's your view on this? I wish they have a way to adjust the stock length.

Youth for sure, then buy slip on pad for a while, then sell it. most kids can't hold a regular size gun good enough to get a good sight picture and form to shoot properly I find.

I bought my son the Marlin XT youth a few years ago and he is just starting to fit it now (he's 8). The single shot laminate model is not a light rifle, and the ergonomics are certainly geared more towards a teenager.

Nothing wrong with the Marlin and I hope it sticks around for a while.

If you're looking around for a youth rimfire rifle that he can use (and grow into), I'd recommend a Ruger American Compact, then buy the full length buttstock module. Mine has been very accurate and my son enjoys shooting it.

Is there a full size aftermarket stock available you could upgrade to when he outgrows it, Boyd's maybe? I love my xt22 but I've not bothered to look for other stock options as the composit stock it came with is fine with me.

That's the same one I have for my almost 8yr old, it's still hiding in the back though. There is a lot of weight in the barrel I was surprised, another neighbors kid has one so we test drove one first. I looked for the YSR like in the video above for over a year and pretty much none in Canada, and the YS was hard to find as well.
The regular blued YR is around and the barrel is lighter contour I believe, almost gave up and bought one but wanted a ss and the ss have fire sights as well. If I found a YSR I would buy a handful of them.
