Marlin XT22TSR I'm thinking this maybe a good starter .22 for me any one have any reviews or recommendations of what maybe a better/similar choice? Trying to keep it on the cheap for now!!

I think I want a bolt action, originally was thinking ruger 10/22 semi auto, but from what I've read a bolt action might be a better choice in the long run, more accurate and reliable!

Please chime in and help a newbie!!!!

Marlin or Mossberg bolts...cannot go wrong, especially the old ones. Just have to read the EEs rimfire to see how many semis and which manufacturers are being sold the most.

See I disagree there but maybe I am the exception. I just recently went through quite the ordeal with my Marlin XT22TR - I had all kinds of issues with it you can read back in this forum or general discussion about my times with warranty and the poor craftsmenship. I figure I likely got a "friday special" but I am still very sour on Marlin's new stuff. I was lucky the shop offered me an upgrade and took back that POS and I got me a CZ 455 Varmint.

Savage MK II GL - Still keeps it cheap - its mag not tube like the marlin but it was my friends first rifle and its absolutely a great starter and inexpensive..I think scoped he paid under 270 taxes in..and we are from Ontario so taxes are outrageous :)

Thanks for the info, trying to get into EE but my request was denied!!

Thanks I will keep the savage in mind also, but i like the idea of being able to shoot .22 short, long and long rifle out of the same gun, but doesn't mean I will buy the marlin!!!

Thanks again for all the help and keep it coming!!!

After adding some glass and a bipod i can not say enough about how great this rifle is accurate out of the box flawless operation love it

As a second rifle i went with the flow and picked up a Marllin 795 semi

Again great out of the box and lots of fun to shoot ,doesnt like the lowball ammo too much for cycling but federal bulk will be eatin all day long

Welcome to the sport and have a great time
