Grandaughter is serious about hunting those numerous marmottes we have at the Ontario farm.

For the last couple of years, she has been doing very good with a Magnum Research 22 WMR but now it's upgrading times…. Yep.

Got her a fun and potent rig ( She told me that she rely absolutely on my expertise.:)

Ruger Ranch rifle 556 AR mags
Swarsosky 5X25X52... Mill.
Cross muzzlebrake from Col Mustard.
Knockoff bipod.

I dont know how it shoot but it sure look good. Lower rings are on order. ( These are a bit to high. )

are you talking actual marmottes or is that the French spelling for ground hogs?

Marmot's are a protected species in BC and can only be destroyed in special circumstances when they're a nuisance.

The groundhog aka Woodchuck is properly called a marmot. ... The Groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as the Woodchuck, or the Whistlepig (particularly in the Southern United States), is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.

We used to have those on the farm when I was a kid... Used to... A neighbour asked if we were going to shoot them off the rocks near the property line, can we please use a shotgun instead of .22's... So I started using 12g 3" 000 buckshot and 3" slugs instead. It was good fun.

Hunting varmints is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.... well, except for paintball adventures with your teenager kids. And PR matches, and SR Matches and PRS matches with friends. Life is good. Most thankful.

Cheers,

Barney

Last year my grandaughter shoot 19 marmottes on my land and friend lands.

She is a straight shooter with a great trigger control, i remember when whe was 8, she could bust all clays at 20 yards with a 22LR.

With this rifle i expect her to surpass herself and i would not be surprised if she shot 3 dozens of the critters this year.:ar15:

Good stuff, that scope should be nice for shooting them at a distance.

They (richardson ground squirrel) usually start popping up pretty soon around here, but haven't seen any yet, probably a couple more weeks and they'll be out around the city.
