In casting about for a utilitarian over/under for grouse hunting, I came across a Marocchi Silver Snipe in 12 gauge. The gun looks to be in good shape and the price does not seem outrageous. However, in looking around online, I can't seem to find any real information or reviews on the gun. Anybody have any experience with or knowledge of Marocchi shotguns, their over/unders and in particular the Silver Snipe? Thanks in advance.

It would be okay for hunting purposes. Parts will be a bit hard to find if it breaks. I don't know what price you are looking at but value on these guns is not high. Can you shoulder the gun before buying? If it doesn't fit you then purchasing it would be pointless as it may be a bit difficult to resell depending on what you had to get out of it.

Yeah, the intended purpose is to have a more utilitarian gun for bird hunting...one that I won't shed a tear over should nicks, scuffs, dings and scratches appear while afield. I can't actually handle the gun as it is on the east coast. The gun is priced at $500, which to me seems to be about right for such a gun and it's intended purpose. However, as you say, if I find it awkward, it wasn't any kind of bargain. Still, I'd like to know more about it.

$500 is to much in my opinion. $400 would be the most I drop on a Marrocchi. The Silver Snipe nomenclature was used by an American importer named J.L. Galef and Son. The Silver Snipe started off as a Beretta, but when Galef lost the import rights for Beretta, they sourced out other manufacturers to make guns, such as Zoli and Marrocchi. The Zoli and Marrocchi guns where built to be sold at a low price point and are not nearly as good a gun as the Beretta's. I've seen nice Beretta's priced at $500 which is a far superior buy then a Marrocchi at the same price point

$400.00 is the most I would pay as well. At $500.00 there are better choices for not much more. There is/was a Winchester 101 listed at $700.00 and hadn't sold. Don't know for sure what shape it is in but I'd go that route before the Marrocchi. There was a Charles Daly Miroku 2 weeks ago at $475.00 shipped (which sold). It just shows there are more well known guns out there at decent prices. Again, the Daly was a gun I would pick before the Marrocchi. But, it's whatever the buyer has a hankering for.

EDIT--found the listing for the 101--reduced to $650.00 shipped. I would be getting pics of it if I was looking for a knock around gun.
