Good morning all,

I see Marstar still has some like yugo 98 left and am thinking about taking the dive. Was wondering what kind of 8mm they are? I have read there are two different types of 8mm one being hard to come by. Also wondering how hard it would be to have the thing mounted with a scope, its going to be a tractor rifle so am not to worried if I have to do a bubba to drill and tap, anyhow any thing you can provide wold be greatly appreciated.

Beaver pilots go deep in the bush

Looking for No4 MkT, swede snipers, swede carbines

They are the dead common 8x57JS chambered mausers.

The only stock milsurp .318" J bored 8mm's are all Gew88 commission rifles (not all of them) - generally those made either very early or made for export to places lie ecuador. Don't worry about it ;)

This is probably a moot point, as I am quite certain Marstar is out of them.

The Yugo M98 is a standard action M98 - outwardly identical to German M98's. A good rifle.

This is not a "Milsurp Police" rant. I don't care what people do with their property, especially with full knowledge of what they are doing. In those cases, the concern should be a monetary one. There are plenty of already "bubba'd" (aka "sporterized", "buggered", "improved", whatever you prefer) guns that would be much cheaper to use as a "Tractor Gun".

You could take a $400-500 original M98, put $200 into it and create a $300 bubba, or pay $300 for a good bubba. The choice should an easy one.

Andy makes a good point. Why not just buy a used one already chopped up here in the exchange forum or at your local used gun reseller? It will be cheaper for sure.

Buying a collectible and then sportering it is not economically feasible unless you having a top gunmaker build a work of art on the salvaged action.

Maybe a bubba'ed Enfield would fit the bill for a tractor gun? Lots in the Exchange Forums already tapped and commercial .303 ammo is a lot easier to find than 8mm. Just a thought....

holy mackerel

Boys all I want to do is stick a scope on it, not looking at cutting wood, is there a no gunsmithing mount out there, as for0 marstar being out of stock, there web site must be really out of date then. Anyhoo thanks for the input.

You may wish to consider the Scout Mount offered by S&K Scope Mount.....also, P&S Militaria still displaying some Yugo 98s....a good place to buy from.

Try a B-Square mount
Bolts onto your rear sight
Buy a cheap LER scope
And you can still use stripper clips :)

Hhmmmm.....do you live in the Soviet Union? Tractor rifle? Kinda reminds me of the Yorgi skit (John Candy on 2nd City) and the Lenin Award skit for most productive tractormanship in the former USSR....
"Yorgi is coming to your town,
Yorgi - he never wears a frown,
Yorgi is happy as can be,
For all of Russia is Yorgi's family!"
....ahhhh the happy days of collective socialism as betrayed by our beloved late John Candy.:beerchug:
