Hi Guys I'm looking into getting my first chinese SKS are they worth the 219$ price. How is the quality and overall condition?
Thanks for the responses.

an SKS is and SKS. There would be nothing wrong with the rifle. The issue would be dealing with marstar. They are pretty difficult to deal with and have been shunned.

I see you are new here, I don't know the whole story but they screwed over a bunch of people involving the Garand T2. There are also countless stories of screwing people over and overall terrible service. They got me for 15 bucks which is a small amount but it pissed me off. I need to be very desperate to give them money. They were once site sponsors, I don't know if they left, were asked to leave or were kicked off. Either way people around here don't like them

I did a quick look around and here is some SKS at the same price.

i looked at a norinco and was appauled at the roughness compred to the russians. wood feels more spungey if that were a word. i didn't buy it. maybe there are better but thats what the store had.

tradeex has amazing but pricey Yugoslavs. spent the money they are a nice sks.

I'm sure the Chinese sks that marstar sells are fine. I will agree that sometimes their shipping rates could be better. They are ok to deal with
If your not comfortable dealing with them there are other vendors that sell them
I do think the Russian ones are better quality wise so if you arnt specifically looking for a Chinese one for a collection I would get a nice Russian Tula.

I had one several years ago. Ugly soft wood and nothing special. The only SKS I've kept is a Russian with a laminate stock.

Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either, mind you.

Lots of folks here giving "one off" advice.

I recently saw a batch of those rifles and they are mostly mixmasters in GOOD only condition. They've been FTR at one time, issued, cleaned, soaked in preservative and put into long term storage before being sold onto the surplus market.

Many of them have late fifties dates. I was hoping to find one with a BLADE bayonet. No luck.

If you're looking to get in on an inexpensive, entry level SKS, these will be fine. Marstar also has a good return policy if it doesn't work or has broken parts or you just don't like it.

As I said, these are in GOOD ONLY condition. Lots of dings in the wood, worn bores, worn blue/finish. Still, they will likely perform as well as an SKS sold for twice the price. Then if you want something in better condition you can sell it for close to what you paid for it and put the money toward it.

Now, if you are having trouble coming up with the money for an SKS, can you afford the ammo to shoot it or the cleaning utensils needed to clean it if the ammo is corrosive?? A lot of newbies don't take ammo/maintenance costs into consideration when purchasing their first firearm.

Never dealt with Marstar; but I have looked at the Chinese SKS rifles. I have a 53 Russian one, and it is a great rifle, not bad for accuracy either. Chinese look fine to me; barrels look great, and some have claimed that they are better than the Russian ones. I may get one to have one of each, but right now there are other things I want more... LOL.

Got a couple still in cosmo from them factory 26 with the beef up stock, they are brand new, this is the real military stuff.

I didn't think there were people that preferred Russian SKS's over Chinese ones. I've always found the Chinese ones shoot better.

It costs about 25 bucks to ship a rifle across Canada. I've personally not had any bad dealings with Marstar and have another order on the way as we speak.

The Chinese sks is every bit as good as any other sks. They may not be as flashy as a Russian sks but they are 100% reliable. I have several Chinese made sks rifles, one for as long as 35 years with no issues or malfunctions.

the old Chinese ones were unfired and accurate. I had a new one that is really just left over parts put together. I think you are looking at one of these.

Agreed on all accounts
