Martini chamber inserts

I just found the thread on the Martini .577/.450 chamber inserts, I was wondering if it would be possible to make an insert that stays inside the chamber? You could just eject the 45/70 case without having to remove the insert, is this possible?

Yep, but it takes a skilled machinist to get it right. The shop I worked in long ago had a PzB German anti-tank rifle that used a Coke bottle sized cartridge with a regular 8mm bullet. We had our machinist make a chamber insert to take the, then new, 8mm Rem Mag. I think it was a press fit. Worked just fine.

Making a permanent 45/70 chamber insert is not a good idea, you need to set the barrel back and re-chamber to 45/70, and rework the extractor if you want to go that route.
