Hello!
Since I recently got a very nice and clean MAS 36/51, I'm wondering if and where I could find original training dummy grenades and propulsive cartridges for it.
Another interesting thing would be to find the training manual for that weapon.
Anyone knows where?
BTW, good reloadable ammo would be nice, too... PP.

I just got your rifle's twin! Mine came with a sling, but lacking the recoil pad, however. I'd like to know where to get the ammo and grenades for it too-I'm going to pick up the bloom automatic golf ball launcher that fits the grenade launcher! What I want to know, is what is the sleeve device that screws out of the wood, and along the grenade launcher, marked with numbers out to about 30...

When you open your bolt, does the bolt handle hit the peep sight? Mine does, and it's driving me insane...

great looking MAS, by the way!

Mas

Hi!
Yes, I was quite lucky to find one in such a good shape.
The parkerizing is a lot more darker than it appears on the pics; I lightened them on purpose. Funny, in the process, it also revealed more cosmoline stuck to the metal. I guess I'll have to hit it with a good dose of hot Varsol and a stiff synthetic bristles brush!
That movable stopring on the grenade spigot is a means of regulating the reach of the grenade: the deeper the grenade tube tail sits on the spigot, the longer the gases push on it and the further it flies.
No, the bolt handle doesn't hit the peep sight. Maybe someone tried to straighten it, not realizing that the dogleg shape was placing the ball just in front of the hand.
If you need close-up pictures with rulers to show you exact placement, just PM me.

Ahhhh! So that's how that ring works. I think the MAS is fairly ungainly in appearance, but it's got so many wacky little quirks and touches that I can't help but love it. Like yours, mine is absolutely perfect. The wood and parking are unlike anything I've ever seen on a milsurp. Mine was born in Feb, 1958(at least that's what the cartouche on the butt tells me). What about yours? As for the bolt, I'd appreciate some pics. It doesn't appear bent out of shape, but it may well be a mm or 2 out...

Clunky

Yes, it's a fact that the MAS doesn't possess the elegance of say, a swedish Mauser, but it is as tough as they come and one of the easiest to field strip down to its firing pin.
It can look unwieldy but it is a consistent grouper with its peep sight and long sight base.
No safety? so what? in the army, you better have a good reason to chamber one anyway!
Two piece stock? ask the Brits, they know why a two-piece is easier and cheaper to make or replace.
Funny bayonet? well, the WWI german grunts didn't like its longer ancestor "the knitting needle" a lot.
Nowadays the mere idea of a bayonet charge is funny so just call it a marshmallow, wiener or shish-kebab roaster, I'm pretty sure that's how it got used most of the time...:p
I'll take pics for you soon.

The MAS is undoubtedly the final bolt action rifle design, just about 5 years ahead of the No4. There are similarities, no fancy volley sights, no cut offs no big bladed bayonet and sights that are good to use.
Yes I love my Mas 36!
