I’m in the process of buying one and yeah the price just makes me sick
But what do you do, if you want one you gotta pay unfortunately
The ones that come up for sale always seem to get sold even at the high prices
Don’t worry after I buy mine something will happen and a surge of them will come in from somewhere and they will be cheaper! Such is my luck lol

Are there any MAS49 collectors here? Hoping to pick one up, but want to know if it's a good rifle to shoot? I'm into French rifles for a long time now, hoping for the rares these days. Thanks guys.

Fargone4sure; that is a fantastic rifle!
I've got a 49 - the buttstock that was on it when I got the gun was a cobbled together abomination
I managed to source a NOS replacement in France on Ebay and landed it for 35 bucks!!
This is a pic with the bubba stock, it looks better now (can't find a current pic)

Love my 49/56. But as mentioned, they do like to slam fire. But the firing pins can be shortened slightly, and that generally solves the problem. A fellow that served with the French military told me that the sniper variant was only issued to the foreign legion. The cheek rest pictored is
original, and they are rarer than hens teeth.

Apparently, they are rare in Canada, but a good supply in the US. Hence the HUGE price difference between the countries.
I had a MAS49 for awhile, sold it to my brother who still has it.
Mine was in the original caliber, it came with 20 boxes of ppu ammo even.
It was a nice gun, light recoiling and seemed to be rock solid reliable. The sights were decent but the trigger left something to be desired.
I personally like an svt or a garand more.
I'm a ww1 and transitional period collector so the the MAS didnt fit into my collection and my brother had to have it so I let it go down the road.
Can't keep them all.
