Match ammo

Wolverine has 168Gr & 175GR federal Gold medal Match. Its pretty good, But its almost 2 dollars a round.

I quit buying premium ammo - it was too expensive even IF you could get it. I took up reloading and haven't looked back - at least as good a result and significant cost reductions.

I think I worked out my current load and added up all the costs...lapua brass, 175 smk's 210m primers and varget powder and averaged over about 8 loads ( as you pay a crap load for brass up front) it worked out to around 68 cents per round. Can't beat that against 2 bucks a round for fgmm. It takes a bit to get into reloading, but for the money you save, its worth it.

10 boxes of Fed Gold medal 308win or what works out to the cost 200 rounds, will get you set up with a nice reloading kit. Just because the box says "match" does not mean it will shoot well in your rifle.

we tried gold match in .233 69gr sierras, two savages and two Remingtons all 26" barrels 3 1/9 twist and one 1/7 savage all guns had 25x + scopes of bench well seasoned shooters, best group was .491 you would get skinned by any of these guns with reloads shooting federals.

for those suggesting reloading, whats an accurate .308 BULLET

There are loads. Depends on what ends up shooting good from your rifle.

Sierra Match King bullets are jump tolerant and relatively easy to get shooting well. As are A-Max. Lapua Scenars are top shelf but may require a little more playing around to get shooting well, same with Bergers (this is just my experience, others may vary). I have had very very good luck with both Lapua and Berger bullets, just needed to fiddle a bit to get there.

I would suggest buying 100 of a few types and trying some load development. **(This is where the guys like MysticPlayer can chime in on the easiest way to work up successful loads).

For my .308 I used Hornaday 168 gr BTHP at first but switched to Sierra Matchking 175 gr BTHP and found that my rifle preferred the SMK's. (Interestingly I used the Hornaday 168 gr HPBT to make up 20 or so 30-06 target rounds and my 30-06 absolutely loves that bullet over the SMK !)

For the .308 I use Varget and haven't tried other powders. COAL = 2.815

I shoot 155 gr bullets because that is what the rules require for my type of shooting. I have used 168's for 300m ISU matches, but found they don't shoot any better than 155's so I don't bother with 168's anymore.
Like Blackcloud says SMK's are the easiest to get to shoot well. I seat out to touch the lands with all my bullets so for me the bullet jump isn't a factor.
Berger's shoot very well as do Lapua's but really start to shine out passed 600 yards. So shooting them at short range is a bit of a waste of a good long range bullet.
One bullet that does not get that much attention is the 155 gr Nosler. From what I have seen they are even a bit better than SMK's.
For long range, Berger VLD's or Lapua , Noslers then SMK's in that order. I would not feel out gunned using any of the above out to 1000 yards.
For short range 600 yards and under Nosler, SMK's.
I have never had any luck with 155 gr Hornady but I know people that rave about them.
