Match cancellation. How late is fair notice?

So for the last few weeks I have been looking forward to shooting some more IPSC. And on this Sunday there was to be a club match at a local range in Pitt Meadows. I wanted to check the match start time and found out that it is now cancelled! :(

So my question is how many days before a match should I assume that it is safe to plan my weekend around? Is three days fair enough? I know things happen, people's plans change, the in laws show up, etc. but for the whole crew? This couldn't have been seen a bit earlier? I didn't see a posting here that they would need more help or the match could be cancelled, etc.

And this isn't a knock on this club as it isn't the first match to be cancelled that I have looked forward to shooting. The guys and gals up there are great... for the most part. :p

And it is only a club level match. But does that mean that shooters can't plan on it until just days before? Some people will drive for hours even if it is a club match. It is still fun and it is without the same pressure to do well as a Qualifier match. It gives a chance to try something new, new gun, new holster, etc.

I wonder how many will be still showing up that didn't think for a minute that it would be cancelled just days before.

And club matches are a great way to get new shooters out to try the sport. They are an important tool to use to get new shooters started.

So what do you think? How many days before a match is it fair to cancel a match? And cancel a match in the summer time. Cancelling a match in the winter because of snow might be different but might be more expected and understandable.

I think 2-3 weeks notice should be given.... except in the case of family emergency or death.

that being said there should be enough people that even if the match director leaves there should be a replacement on the team. Shortage of people is just complete laziness on the clubs part and the club members that put it on.
 
I was disappointed in the cancellation of the Thompson club match. Sh*t happens and not enough people around to run the match I suppose. So I drove up to Kamloops and shot the club match there instead. I had a good time, got out of town for a night, meet some new people and the weather was great. Life too short too worry about the small stuff.
 
it was a club match, so I wouldn't expect more than a couple days notice really.
 
even if it is only a club match it is still the clubs reputation that suffers.....

how many people are going to attend or make plans to take time off of work and such to attend a "maybe" event.

I say it is in bad faith to cancel with such short notice...
 
There are over 150 active IPSC members in the Lower Mainland. 10% of them put on events. If more people became active in helping and spread the load around, maybe we would have more events............And cancellations would not happen.
 
A) It's a club match. Un-bunch thine panties!

B) If you're that fired up to see one put on... go put one on! I'm sure the TMSA exec would be delighted to have the help.

C) Matches get scheduled and announced way early around here. Prevents conflicts.

the cancelation was not without alot of emails and phone calls done.
the cancellation was the fairest way to keep the match level and stages up to the way you would want them to be.
it's a dam shame when holidays get in the way of a good day of shooting!
