Match Grade Primers

I have been reloading for a couple of years but I'm now looking at moving into precision shooting and what to refine my loads.

One question that I have had is that some companies offer both large rifle primers and large rifle match primers. I was wondering if anyone has seen a difference in performance using match grade primers or if this is just an advertising gimmic?
 
i've been using federal match grade primer for quite a while. I got turned onto them when a 223 wasn't cooperating with CCI small rifle primers.

At this point I use them for everything.
 
Theoretically, they are made to more exacting standards than a regular primer and therefore should yield better accuracy. There is no guarantee they will provide the best accuracy in any given given load over a standard primer. That's what load development is all about. Try them!:)
 
"...should yield better accuracy..." Yep, but unless you're shooting benchrest, you likely won't notice it. Certainly not out of a hunting rifle.
 
Even shooting bench rest it's tough to tell the difference nowadays. 20 years ago, you bought primers in 5000 lots. Tried them for consistency and if they worked well with your components, you set them aside for use in that rifle/component group. If they didn't give consistent performance, they went for sale at the next gun show.

The primers available off the shelf today, are very good, consistency wise. There is little if any variation in hardness of standard rifle primers, depending on the brand. I'm not a great fan of Winchester primers. Just IMHO. CCI primers and Federal are almost identical. In my HBR rifles, I don't change anything when I use them. I have a lot CCI BR primers that I use as a control. The new primers are so good from lot to lot, I can't tell the difference anymore. Maybe, I'm just getting to old to notice?
 
From what I have read match grade primers are made by the most experienced people at the plant and under go 2 or more extra quality control measures. Load developement and test firing will be an indication of what works best in your gun. I use CCI BR primers pretty much universally for rifle now as I had a problem with Federal primers setting off larger quantities of RL 22. See above some one had problems with CCI.... All you can do is try.
