I do a lot of 223 loading for my AR-15. I always thought match bullets would provide the best accuracy and best ballistic coefficient (BC).
To my utter suprise sierra's cheap 55 gr FMJ with a cannulure has a much higher BC than match bullets of the same/similar weight.
55 gr sierra FMJ .272 @ 3000 fps and above.
52 gr sierra HPBT MatchKing .225 @ 2800 fps and above
53 gr sierra HP MatchKing .224 @ 2800 fps and above
That 55 gr FMJ looks like it will shoot way flatter than those matchkings.
I have always loaded for a 69 gr SMK but decided to load a fast 55 gr round to match the BDC for my new ACOG. This is the first time I really paid attention to the BC of the 55 grainers.
I thought it was very strange.
