Can anyone tell me about this unit and tell me where I can get a spare mag?

It appears to be manufactured in Feb of 1952 and has Redfield model 75 target peep with interchangable globes.

You have a fine rifle there. It was brought out by Remington to be the equal of the Winchester 75 rifle. There were about 135,000 Model 513 rifles made, of which about 13,000 were the sporter types. The rest target rifles with a heavy barrel.

The same magazines that fit the 511 and 521 will also fit the 513. I bought 3 from Brownells last year, but I had to go through a gun shop to do it.

If you Google "Remington 513" magazine, you will find lots. They generally run about $15 for a 6 round one, and $20 for a 10 round one.

You have the 513 S (sporter), you have a man sized, very accurate sporting rifle. Remington used a better quality of barrel on the Sporters, and charged more than the regular target rifle for them.

Later models, after 1954, had a grooved receiver to accept a telescopic sight. The trigger is adjustable within certain limits. E-Bay has reprints of manuals.

Lets have a picture. There are not a whole lot of them around, but I know where two are......the first one I bought in 1955, and it took me 50 years to find another at a reasonable price. I would not part with either of them.

I have a Remington Matchmaster model 513 SA with a Lyman mdel 57 rear peep and a Lyman model 17A front tunnel sight from that same period, these are very rare here in Canada as well as the USA, they are far superior than the Winchester model 75 in accurracy and all other factors! The proper scope for these ungrooved models is a Stith mount with a Stith 4X scope manufatured by Weaver for Stith. The Rem model 513S and SA were manufactured from 1941 to 1956, if you want more exact info. go to www.rimfirecentral.com and clik onto the Remington thread and get ahold of a member named John Glyde, he is the Author on all 22 rimfires built by Remigton and is one of there historians. There was 13,677 to be exact of these 2 models, these were very expensive rifles in there day, in 1941 it cost $26.23 with buck horn sights. Just to compare a Winchester model 75 sporter was the same price, soo this is no kids rifle!! About a magazine try to find an original magazine from any of the 500 series Remingtons as the aftermarket clips are not as reliable but will run you $30 nowadays, hope this helps a little ,you are the only other fellow I know in Canada with one of these, they have great value nowadays running into the $700 range in 80%+ condition gun, take care Dale in T-Bay

Yep, great rifles.

Got the spare mag for mine from posting a WTB on the EE.

This is mine with PH17 rear sight and PH front with a Parker Hale shell holder as well.

I am also looking for a mag for a Remington 511. You people say it is the same as the 513 you are looking for.
So I will watch here to see if anyone else has ideas, then could post on the ee wanted. I too, would prefer the 5, or is it 6? shot.

This is how I received the gun with a 12X Litschert Spot - Shot scope on it as well as the PH sights. I've since moved the scope to a BSA International.

SACRILEGE! That Litschert scope is worth as much as the rifle!

A very nice outfit, though. The 513 S Remingtons are one of the finest vintage .22 rifles built.
