Matrix 30 Caliber Hunting Bullets

Haven't shot game with them, just paper. Nothing spectacular accuracy-wise out of an otherwise decently accurate rifle.

It appears not many have tried them on game. If you do try them on game, I'd sure enjoy a review and your opinion.:)

I haven't used Marshal's 30 cal on game yet but I have used his 270 gn 9.3 bullets and they worked excellent. I shot a grizzly at less than 30 mtrs and the bullet expanded larger than a toonie and retained 258 gns after washing. This was out of a wildcat driving the 270 at over 3000 fps. I just got some of Marshals 195 gn 30s but have not used them on anything yet.
I did use another of his bullets in my 23 cal last fall on a WT deer, the bullet went through and exited so not much to report other than it actually held together and went through...........105 gn bullet at over 3400 fps with a 1-8 twist barrel.......a bullets worst nightmare.....

270 gn spritzer RBT from my 9.3X300WM from grizzly at less than 30 mtrs.

If ever a bullet was going to fail, this should have been it...........heavy muscle and bone at point blank range with an impact velocity over 3000 fps.........Marshal's bullet came through with shining colors IMHO. It didn't just survive because it was such a large bullet to start with, it retained 96% of it's weight and shows no signs of jacket fracture at all, just beautiful petaled expansion. The lost weight was most likely core that scrubbed off during the "rocket ship" ride through the bear.

BOTTOM LINE...........I highly recommend Marshal's bullets to everyone and use them myself in all my hunting rifles !!!!!!!

Think you just sold me on some of his. Going to try them in my 25/06 and 458 wm

Last time I looked, Marshall didn't put cannelures or crimping groves on his .458 bullets, which is okay for a Ruger #1, but not so good for a magazine fed rifle. I solved the problem with the purchase of an inexpensive hand cannelure tool from Corbin, make sure you get the one for jacketed bullets.

Just out of curiosity why are non-cannelure bullets a problem in a magazine? Out of a spring fed tubular magazine for sure, but I use many smooth jacket bullets out of detachable mags and hinged floorplate mags and have never had even the slightest problem. If the bullet is receiving direct pressure to the tip during cycling, there is a feeding issue.

In the case of a .458, Winchester or Lott recoil will slam the bullet into the forward magazine wall, and over a number of firings, drive it deep into the case unless there is sufficient crimp to keep it in place. It is often the case where a hunter constantly adds rounds to the top of his magazine, so the bottom round or two get multiple exposures to heavy recoil. With the small capacity of the .458, the bullet tends to stop against the powder column, but compressing it, resulting in increased pressure.

Used 100gr 6mm for my whitetail last year. Great accuracy and performed flawlessly on the deer. Never recovered the bullet, but it did its job. Highly recommend Matrix bullets.

I plan to use a lee factory crimp die. It's said that they actually crimp into the jacket. And yes my gun has set some bullets back. I buckled a few cases trying to tighten the crimp tighter. I'm only using 72 gr H4895 under a 405 bullet so pressure isn't a main concern with only a round or two being fired. I rotate them in the mag and inspect daily when I'm hunting. I do for all rifle rounds even my 25/06
If i find they can't stay I have a sxs 45/70 as well
