I recently purchased a brand spankin new Winchester SXP black shadow. 24" barrel, matte black finish on the barrel and receiver. I love it. the only thing that's already bugging me is that after only 1 day of shooting clay's with my buddy, the barrel and receiver are already marked up from the folding plastic table we brought, among other things. (minor scuffs) I'm mainly wondering if there are any tips on getting rid of said marks, not necessarily preventing them, but removing them so I can keep the overall condition and aesthetic's of my shotgun in as good of shape as possible for as long as possible.

any and all tips will be much appreciated!

As you've already found, parkerized barrels pick up marks, dust and dirt from surfaces very easy. Parkerizing has a rougher surface than polish steel that's blued. My Benelli Nova is a great example of this, everytime I set it in the gun holder at the Skeet field, I have to wipe the white mark off where the barrel rested on the painted wood. To keep it looking good, keep a good coat of oil rubbed on it before it goes back in the cabinet everytime.

Wiping the receiver/barrel with a patch saturated with G96 works very well. Allow the oil to evaporate prior to storage.....takes about 10 minutes.

I just discovered froglube clp and it is fantastic on everything. Just put my new Weatherby sa08 together after cleaning with froglube clp paste, and following the instructions I didn't use any other lubricant or oil. I was floored that it actually worked lol. I brought eezox along with some cleaner in case I needed to lube things up but she functioned perfectly. Put threw about a hundred target loads and twenty heavy Magnum loads and all functioned perfectly. Not a single FTE or FTF the whole time. It started raining and that didn't affect things, really nothing did. Even had a little grass from the field find it's way into the action and nothing at all went awry. When I got home MOST of the gun was easy to clean with frog lube. I didn't heat it up this time like I think you are suggested to do, and I found that the places with more severe buildup did not come as clean as easily as I'd expect, but the barrel (which I patched while it was still warm with a little froglube before coming home) most of the gas system, and most of the action, were all incredibly easy to clean.

The reason for me posting this here though is that on their site they talk about froglube and parkerized finishes. They say to rub it on and it protects blah blah blah. I tried it and was surprised, it gave the gun a nice calm sheen to the finish and was easy as heck to clean afterwards. The biggest downside is that you have to heat a little (blow dryer works great, heat gun if you are real careful and light on the heat with it) to get it to work fully and effectively. But it works.

No I'm not paid by then by the way, just extremely stoked that I found something that can be used almost universally on most of a gun for cleaning protecting and lubricating. I don't doubt there ate other clp products that do similar stuff it was just real cool to wipe off what was visible on the surfaces that need lubrication, and find they were still lubricated even though you couldn't see Jack.

Oh and it smells awesome! It's mint flavored! Haha

G96 or Break Free CLP will do the same thing without involving any requirements such as heating.......the former smells quite nice though. :)
