Mauser 2000

I picked one of these up in a trade recently (it's a Heym rifle with a Mauser 2000 action). I tried using Google to find out more about it but all I could find were from people wanting to know how much they're worth. Does anyone know anything about these rifles? Are they of good quality and uber reliable? Anyone know if the Mauser 2000 action is a small or large ring? Would scope bases for the Mauser 98 work on this? Thanks.

Its not a Mauser based action, so standard Mauser bases are unlikely to fit. Mine had Leupold 2 piece bases, cant recall the specs. They are well made rifles, lightweight with a pencil barrel, and an adjustable trigger. Check out the Heym SR20 for similarities.

One might say they are indeed a Mauser action since they were made by Mauser Werke. As I recall, the receiver ring is .1410 so 98 mounts do fit. This is going from working on one exactly forty years ago so I'm not sure you can take it to the bank.

Push fed but wonderful and accurate rifles; and as said above, marked and sold as well by Heym.

They came in I believe, 2 action sizes and some came with iron sights as well as a magnum "African magnum" version with sights and I think a stouter bbl.
I have had them in 8x68, 375HH, 30-06, 7x64 and a couple in mannlicher carbine form.

Very nice guns. Good friend took his .375HH and bobbed the bbl, put iron sights on with a detachable scope mount and went to the jungles of Africa and crawled through the mud and rain and bush and got his Bongo. The gun came back worn, a bit tarnished but 100%.
They also came in left hand versions.
