Howdy!

I had considered posting this in the surplus forum. But seeing how it involves gutting a Mauser bolter, I didn't want to offend that crowd.

I want a .45 ACP rifle, its that simple. I've never owned a bolt action and I like pistol caliber rifles, end of story. I understand the US is a hard one to legally obtain firearm parts from, that much is very clear. But, with that said, I know it can be done. I ordered a barrel liner from a company in Kentucky last year. They sent it to an address somewhere in Ont, and then from there to me. But I'm sure asking said liner company to send me someone elses product wouldn't go over so well. So who would I go to for importing a Rhineland arms .45 Mauser kit?

BTW, I am aware that there were some kits made within Canada for the Lee Enfield, but I'm sure those are quite sparse now and my understanding is they never worked very well even after heavy modifying. My reading around indicates that the Mauser K98 (and clones) is abit better for the conversion.

Anyway, thanks for your time.

No company will ship controlled items out of country without the proper permit in place. US Department of Homeland Security and the BATFE take a very dim view of that sort of thing. Your only play is to talk to the manufacturer of the parts you need to see if they're registered to export. Then you'll need someone in Canada with the proper import paperwork to arrange the import. This is how it's done.

Check our sponsors. Several offer import services into Canada. You buy, have it shipped to their USA affiliate, US branch ships to them, they to you. It works, buts you end up paying extra shipping plus their fee. Depends on how much you want someting. One point: the fee applies to each line item. You can order twenty of the same thing for a single fee, but they have to be identical.

Hey...

I've built a few 45 cal rifles...Lee Enfields are easiest. You just buy a .452 barrel, thread it to 14TPI (if memory serves), screw it into a No.4 Mk.I receiver, ream the chamber to correct headspace, and you are shooting!

If you supply the bits, most good gunsmiths can put it together for you.

I have a neat one I put together...I made an adapter to screw a finned Thompson barrel into a No.4 receiver...

The are fun to shoot...no recoil, and volume of a 22

Must see pictures... It sounds pretty darn neat.

Thanks for getting back, guys.

I'll have to check with the aforementioned sponsors, see how much it'll all end up costing. Might turn out to be less in the long run just to do the smithing here. But, then again, I'm sort of at a stage in life where I'd like to finish projects as fast as I can before I lose interest and decide its not worth it. Now, I do own a good size lathe, but I've never done any gun smithing on it. I wonder if I'd be able to pull it off............

Tyroma - Heavens to murgatroyd! Well done, and doesn't look all that bad with the plastic stock.;) When it comes to looks, and if both the Mauser and Enfield functioned the same, I would pick the Enfield out of the two. But judging by the videos I've seen, the Mauser seems to have less feeding issues then the Enfield. Where as the Enfield FTFeed more often then not. I can understand why the rifles FTF in the first place. Such a short casing doesn't have as much inertia on ejection as the 30 caliber long brass that the rifles were designed for originally.

I'll have to PM you later Tyroma and ask you some more questions, if you don't mind.
