Came across a Mauser 66S the other day. A very interesting rifle....I have never seen one before. Its in 7mm Rem mag. Its in very nice shape, but has been hunted with so some marks and scratches on wood. It has no accessories...just the bare gun. The owner asked me to make an offer...I told him being totally unfamiliar with gun I'd look into it. Can anyone help me with a fair price? Does anybody know what they sold for new? Thoughts on this rifle?
Thanks.

I have this one and I paid $1500 for it .Being an early mannlicher stock version with double set triggers it s a little more scarce than some of the more standard versions. Also scope mounts can be expensive for it if you buy a factory mount

I bought two model 66 rifles. Both had claw mounted scopes, old Zeiss models. I paid $2500.00 for each rifle. All things considered, I would think a model 66 in VG condition would have a FMV of $1500.00 to $2000.00, depending on stock quality. They are cool rifles that are fun to play with. But both my files require a "chin weld" as opposed to a cheek weld. The stock is set up for iron sites and not a scope. So for practical hunting, there are a lot better, cheaper options.

But the Mauser 66 is the Jesus of Cool, so it gets my vote.

Thanks for the info so far....I understand that these rifles can be fitted with various barrels to change calibers....I would think it would be tough finding different barrels.
Any thoughts on accuracy?

Yes you can switch barrels easily on the 66 but the cartridges have to be in the same bolt head grouping. There are three different Bolt head groupings for these rifles and yes barrels are a bit hard to find but they are out there.I would guess you could find another barrel for yours being a standard easier than I would for my Stutzen model.Accuracy in my gun is good I bought to use as an iron sighted woods walking rifle as it weighs around 61/2 pounds without scope
