Hi folks. Got these from a friends estate. Don’t know much about them but I’m sure you do. Another friend wants me to hit them with the welder and put them on his wall for $100 each. I’m thinking not. Let me know what you see here and maybe a value if you don’t mind. The box of small bits cane with them and I don’t know what’s for what.

The long lever Henry?

The 71/84 Mauser

The 71/84 definitely worth more than the 100... Sportered ones go for at least double that and this one has a full stock. I hesitate to put a value because it's stripped and may be missing parts - I can't see if the magazine is still there or if it's just missing the stacking rod that's on the front cap of the magazine. The rear sight is not correct, but I don't know Martini Henry well enough to say if it came from that. I see the 71/84 sling swivels and the trigger in the box. I can take one of mine apart tomorrow to take a picture of the small parts and see if the rest can be identified. Perhaps someone knowledgeable in Martinis could do something similar?

If you wanted to sell it, though, I'd be interested

Martini Henry could be worth 1200$ to 2000$ Australian depends on condition of barrel""? Vic

That would be an awfully high price for a run of the mill Mk. 4 in Canada. I think $600.00 to, perhaps, $800.00 for a complete rifle in good condition and with a good bore would be more reasonable. It would be a shame to dewat these nice antiques.

I have one for sale. PM me.

Mk IV Martini-Henry rifles are of rather low collector interest in Canada because that version was never acquired for military issue here.

(Canada got 2,100 Mk I M-H rifles in early 1874 and 5,000 Mk III rifles (possibly a few MK II's were included) in 1885 ... but they saw relatively limited issue. The Snider-Enfield remained our primary-issue military rifle from 1867 through 1897, when we made a quantum leap forward and began replacing it with the state-of-the-art .303 Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle.)

How do you get $1200+ out of that Martini???

I'm not being contentious. Did I miss something special about it??

Both of those rifles have had all of their original finish on the stocks and metal removed. The pics don't indicate a wire buffing wheel. Can't be sure though.

If all the parts are there and serviceable IMHO together they should bring $500 at most and then, only if the bores are decent.

As GrantR mentions the parts are worth what I stated for a price, maybe more, if you can find a buyer willing to pay full price.

If I were selling those rifles, I would list them as complete parts kits.

That rear sight, as mentioned is on the wrong rifle. It appears, from your pic, the Mauser rear sight is missing??

As he priced it in Aus $, perhaps his estimate is based on down-under prices.

OP, the cleaning rod on the M-H is probably worth close to $100...
