Mauser 71 Vs 71/84 stocks

Hello all:

Got a question re: the difference between a Mauser 71 and a 71/84 forstock stock. Now I know the 71/84 forstock have some internal difference such a long, length wise, hole for the tube magazine as well as for the feeding/lifting mechanism, but what else is different. Is the length, the profile, the inletting for the nose cap, etc. the same?

This reason I'm asking is that I may have a line on a couple of 71 repro forstocks, but need a mix of both 71 and 71/84 forestocks. Could I take a 71 stock and by removing wood for the mag stuff, turn it into a 71/84 stock?

The 71/84 stock is much bulkier. The reviever is section deeper for sure, not sure about wider. The fore stock is likely similar width, but deeper as well, with different size bands ( I think, only had a sporterized gew71). I believe barrel profile were the same, but the nose caps were different as well.
 
Better than the other way around - I don't envy anyone having to bore out the magazine tube hole in the stock for the 71/84 :( Thing is paper thin between the barrel and mag tube.
 
Yep, the wood of the stock running the top length of the magazine tube is paper thin indeed, simply amazing they were able to carve it out by hand 120 years ago.

I don't own a 71 yet but the fore end profile is completely different. The 71 stock has a provision for a cleaning rod channel running the bottom length of the fore end, the nose cap is different and is fitted differently as well.

Nothing saying you can't try it anyway but you will probably be banging your head against the wall trying to recreate the 71/84 stock features, I know I would!
