I have an old Mauser 96 in 6.5X55 that shoots great, with the appropriate load. However, the trigger is an old two stage military trigger, which I do not like. Do any of you know of replacement triggers that would be available for a Mauser model 96? I am looking for a a crisp, one stage trigger, that fires at about 3.5 pounds of pull. What would be the cost, and how difficult would it be to get the replacement done?

Hello

A quick fix is to order a BOLD trigger from Boyds gunstocks in the US. There about $34.00US and with a side safety there only a few dollars more (The shipping though is about $27.00, you save a bunch if you order something else ie. two triggers as they ship to Canada anything under a $100 US purchase before shipping) I priced two with the safeties and I was about $105.00 US shipped for both. If your half mechanically minded they are not hard to change, a cross pin holds them onto the receiver. Some inletting some times needs to be done to allow for the new trigger package (and side safety if purchased). I had problems installing one before and it was the inletting that was catching but for the life of me I couldnt locate the bind area and ARWEN ACE on the site corrected it for me.

Another option is the Timney trigger, excellent triggers, a bit more expensive. I am sure there are dealers and tinkerers on the site that either have replacement triggers in stock or can help get one installed for you if you look at that option. I am sure others on the site have more experience than I do with these but these are two of the options I have used before.

The replacement is very easy to do, the trigger choice is much harder without being able to try / see it first.

Depending on where you are (ville de Québec ou "Québec"?) and how you can deal with remote businesses, you will be able to find different importers / resellers.

There are also ways to improve a Mauser trigger, but I suggest you deal with a gunsmith before doing any alteration of the original trigger. Also, is your Swedish Mauser a military one? I if so, be aware that most, if not all replacement trigger will need that you remove some wood from the stock to make room for it and your rifle will then be no more an "original" one..

Huber Concepts makes a drop-in adjustable trigger for various Mausers, including the 96.

Dayton-Traister makes a replacement trigger for the M96. While I don't have a 96, I've got D-T triggers on two M98's and they are every bit as good as the Timneys I have on two other M98's.

The D-T's are easier to install than the Timneys as they are very similar in size and shape of the original, military trigger and therefore less wood has to be removed.
