So I got my Israeli mauser in the mail today. What does dou 43 mod 98 mean. Sorry if this is a silly question.

Edit... same gun differnt question. Any one every have some sort of coating on the extractor( it's not grime) it's chipped in two places so I was wondering if I should remove this. Google has not helped.

Interesting how you purchased a variant of mauser without knowing the original?

ANYWAY, it's a rebarreled/chambered generally ww2 German or satellite ally made K98 that post war was sent to Isreal for the conquest of Palastine. With these rifles now chambered in 7.62 x 51 Nato the state of Isreal was established and the seeds of the current muddle of today were laid.

I've thought about getting one but two things have prevented it.
1 I do not want to get into a 5th ammo calibre for cost.
2 I do not support the current zionist state of isreal

Had a good chukle on this one. I don't support the comunist or the nazi ideology, but it doesn't prevent me from owning nazi or comunist milsurp rifle...

I bought it cause its a mauser and its in 308 do I need any real reason? I just didn't know the codes and all that. Thanks for the info.

In case you didn't know Brunn is Brno now CZ. When the Germans annexed the Sudetenland, the Czech arms industry built Mausers (and many arms and vehicles) for Germany.

Try working at a place that decides to get out of the firearms game and sell every thing at cost plus 10% off.....my safe went from modest to you need help. I don't regret a thing.

Atta boy . By the way , the Brno's are one of the better 98 variants , I've had two over the years . One in 8X57 , and one like yours , an Israeli 7.62 . Both were accurate and reliable rifles , I'm sure you'll enjoy yours . As for assigning political overtones to firearms , they are metal and wood , nothing more . I don't like communism , but I love soviet built firearms , just saying . Enjoy brother .

And I strongly dislike ISIS and I think Lee Harvey Oswald could have used a little bit more of pre-season rifle practice too, but who gives an effing #### philnut??

Edit: And it's spelled Palestine, not Palastine BTW. Read a book.

I fail too see how a rifle likely sold numerous times privately, imported into Canada by a third party (who knows when) and sold out of service by Israel 60+years ago. "Supports the Zionist state"

Phillistine, your political views have no place in this thread. And besides if you're only doing 4 calibres you're lower than a newbie.

I dont think that the Israeli Mausers generated a whole lot of 'cash' when they were flogged off by Israel...so I wouldn't be too fussed over who's regime is or isnt being supported. To be honest I have never seen a specimen that I would want in my gun cabinet. They all seem pretty rough firearms 'assembled' to quickly fill a hole in the civil defence arsenal. Maybe very interesting historically...but aesthetically they are not the most 'elegant' of firearms.

^ I have absolutely nothing against the otherwise fine K98 action in it's original factory format. Thing is, there seems to be a fairly regular (but not 100%) complaint that these converted 7.62 NATO rifles, just don't feed right sometimes??

maybe or maybe not

Critiquing other people's views seem to be a past time here. Choose whatever reasons you want to own your stuff I choose mine. Autocorrect on a phone does all sorts of things, the gist of things are there good enough to understand.

You started the mud slinging.

So stay on topic, keeping politics for a thread you can start elsewhere other than milsurp hut.
